My Braces

I recently got braces. Earlier this year, actually. February 5th, to be exact. Honestly, braces are awful. Even if I’ve only had them for 7 months, they have not been nice to me. I think choosing colors is fun, even if it’s only a small difference and doesn’t change my experience.

I think I’ll start with my process of getting them on. It was really simple, they just put this rubber thing that kept my mouth open, then started putting on the glue and all that fun stuff. I don’t remember much of the process, but I remember when they took of the rubber mouth thing my face was really gross from saliva. Sorry if that made you gag. I had to say it. That was probably one of the worst parts of getting my braces on, besides the amount of time it took and how weird my mouth felt with all the brackets rubbing against the inside and my lips.

My teeth do look a lot straighter, though. Clearly, they’re working. Pretty soon I’m going to have to get rubber bands. They’re going to fix an overbite I barely have. I mean, everyone has a slight overbite. That’s how our jaws are supposed to line up. I guess they see my overbite worse than the average overbite. I’m pleased that they’re doing it right about now, while we are all wearing masks at school and no one can really tell I have bands in my mouth. I’m definitely not excited, but hopefully they make my teeth look better.

I didn’t really mention the tightening process, which I’ll do now. You go into the orthodontist, they take you to a seat, and then ask if you’ve had any problems or pain with them. Then they take off the bands around each bracket and show you your color options. They might do an x-ray, or a wire change, or they might just put the bands right back on in the color you chose.

For my final topic, I am going to talk about how much it hurts. Not putting them on, or getting them tightened, but when they are moving your teeth in general. There is so much pressure, and it hurts so much. It’s hard to explain the pain without making it seem worse than it is. I think it’s the amount of pressure on your teeth that makes the pain almost intolerable. When you get them on, they hurt the most. Then when you get them tightened they hurt for a few days. And then the rest is history. Getting them tightened now, since I’ve done it a lot, doesn’t hurt at all.

That’s my short little story about my braces! I hope you enjoyed it, and there will definitely be more stories about my braces, since they’re a huge part of my life, but for now that is all! Hope you are all having a great day, and I’ll do my best to post again soon.
